The G-SHOCK That Proves Tough Watches Can Be Stylish

05 Nov 2026
G-SHOCK

The G-SHOCK 2100 series proves that a tough watch can also look refined. It launched in 2019 with a slim case and an octagonal bezel. It keeps G-SHOCK's shock-resistant build and 200-meter water resistance, and it looks at home with jeans or a jacket. At The Watch Connection, 2100 models start at $110 in resin and go up to stainless steel and full-metal versions.

What makes G-SHOCK watches so tough

Since its 1983 launch, G-SHOCK has developed tough watches. As a result, the brand has earned a reputation for use in sport, the military, and outdoor activities. The original G-SHOCK colors still matter: red represents a love of taking on challenges, blue represents water resistance, and yellow represents shock resistance.

Three things make G-SHOCK watches stand out:

  • Shock-resistant design: These watches include shock-resistant technology built into their design. For example, the GM2110D model uses a glass fiber resin case as part of its shock-absorbing design. The G-STEEL model GST-B400 uses a carbon fiber-reinforced resin case as part of Casio's Carbon Core Guard design. This helps absorb shocks while reducing weight. The MT-G MTG-B4000 series uses an improved Dual Core Guard design, including a frame made from a mix of carbon fiber and stainless steel.
  • Water Resistant: Many G-SHOCK models have a water resistance of up to 200m, including the GA2100LXB-1A9 and GM2110D-2A below.
  • Multiple useful, easy-to-use features: Depending on the model, you can have an LED light, stopwatch, countdown timer, full auto calendar, Tough Solar battery charging, Bluetooth connectivity to your smartphone, GPS and compass, and barometric pressure and thermometer sensors.

The 2100 series packs all that toughness into a slimmer, cleaner case, so it works where a classic chunky G-SHOCK might look out of place.

How to choose your G-SHOCK

  • Consider how dressy you want your watch to be. If you're looking for a weekend/casual watch, then the GA2100LXB-1A9 or GA2100WD-1A will do the job with a light resin 2100. If you're looking for something to wear in the office or out in the evenings, a steel bezel and band, like the GM2110D, will look more traditional.
  • Consider the weight. Resin watches are very light; the GA2100LXB-1A9 weighs just 51g. Adding steel will make the watch heavier; the GM2110D-2A weighs 146g, and some people like the extra weight.
  • Consider your power source. A battery will power most 2100s. The GA2100LXB-1A9 has about 3 years of battery life. If you never want to worry about changing batteries, a Tough Solar version such as the GBM2100A-8B will charge using light.
  • Consider the size. Most 2100s measure about 48–49mm by 44–45mm and are under 12mm thick. This is because the 2100 series is quite slim. If you have a smaller wrist, then compare the case sizes on each product page.
  • Consider your budget. Resin 2100s will cost between $110 and $145 on our site. G-STEEL and steel versions will cost between $280 and $330, and statement watches will cost between $650 and $895.
